Hello again Metaversity goer! Welcome back to Doom’s Weekly Deck Tech! My name is Meta_Doom, and I’m a member of the Smoke Squad Collective. This week we will be looking at one of my current main decks! My deck is subtly named “I’m Making A List, And Checking It Twice”, we will just call it The List Of Doom for short. If you have played with me lately, you already know what’s going on here…I present to you my latest MetaZoo Deck Tech – The List Of Doom
The Idea
The whole idea I had for this deck, I’m not going to lie, was a meme at the start. The idea was to play Santa Claus, give Gift and Present Tokens, and make a list of names. My list is currently 14 names long as of January 23r,d 2023. With the addition of the new Santa Claus for the MetaZoo Holiday 2022 release, I had an idea blossom. Then with the start of the New Year, the plan was in full effect! Now let me break this down!
How It Wins
This deck is built around the 2 different Santa Claus pages and the 4th wall affects their attacks have. The OG Santa’s attack deals +50 damage if you have given the targeted caster a Present “This Year” and the new Santa’s attack allows you to deal 20 damage to the target beastie or artifact if you gave the target caster a Gift “This Year”. There are some technicalities to dive into.
After a bit of discussion in the MZO group chat, we concluded that “This Year” in the Santa page text only applies to a match. But, ya boi Doom before this ruling had already been hard at work constructing a physical list of casters he had given Gifts and Presents. I was making a list… and checking it twice. Showing the other MZOs my list, we had decided that the validity of my list for the year would be up to the MZO and Tournament Organizer of the event it is played in. Alongside that ruling we also determined that the Present Token OG Santa makes, as well as the Gift Token made by the Elf Tokens you place on contract of the new Santa, can be given immediately when created. Luckily with that ruling this deck can put in the work in either scenario! Santa, the year round menace.
The Breakdown
This deck is all about getting big beasties out as quickly as possible to control the arena. Light Elemental and the Santa’s are the core of the deck here. Light Elemental creates Stained Glass Tokens that also get stronger when Light Elemental damages an opposing caster! Pairing a token with a Powerup Red is such a great way to lay out the pace of the game. Unless the opposing caster can get rid of the token or stop the Powerup Red, that token will more than likely be able to keep getting stronger and take out any of the opposing casters strongest beasties.
Another option is to Powerup Red the OG Santa. That combo, paired with gifting a caster a Present, will make Santa smack for 200 damage! Powerup Red on any targetable beastie is bound to command the board state! Alongside Santa and the Elementals, there is also a splash of Sam Sanicalir, Dragon of Oconto Falls, and Guardian Angel to help or be swapped out with pages from your side deck for game 2.
Coming in clutch
Finally, we will talk about some clutch cards that fill in the rest of the deck. There is the meta standard of New Year’s New Beginnings and Second Anniversary Celebration to help in a pinch. ince we are running light, there are some other great pages to use in the current catalog! Righteous Reckoning and Banish are 2 amazing removal cards that are a must have in any light deck.
Righteous Reckoning will allow you to potentially flip arena control in just 1 turn by destroying all fatigued beasties in the arena! Banish works on a smaller scale, but at any time, allowing you to place any non-aura page on the bottom of its owner’s spellbook. But if the page is Dark or Spirit aura type, you may place that page in its owner’s afterlife. Very strong cards to help get rid of almost everything that might threaten Santa and his Elementals.

Lastly I would like to talk about the MetaZoo Hanukkah Ornament. Playing this page early can really give you an upper hand! At the start of your turn, put a day counter on MetaZoo Hanukkah Ornament. Therefore, once 3 day counters are on the page you can fatigue it to use its power to then generate 8 light aura, you and target caster bookmark 2, and you send MetaZoo Hanukkah Ornament to the afterlife. 8 aura and a little bit of draw power can really go a long way!
